John Benjamins logoThe Open Research team and the Library are delighted to announce a new Read and Publish agreement between the University of St Andrews and John Benjamins Publishing Company. This three-year agreement aims to aid John Benjamins transition from subscriptions and towards an open access business model where institutions are investing in making research openly available to all.

This agreement grants St Andrews staff and students access to a selection of journal titles: Babel, Gesture, Historiographia Linguistica, Reinardus, Target.

Through this agreement St Andrews corresponding authors will also be able to publish research articles open access at no additional cost in any John Benjamins hybrid journal, including ‘Interaction Studies‘ and ‘Forum: International Journal of Interpretation and Translation‘. The entire journal portfolio covers a wide variety of subject areas, including Linguistics, Translation Studies, Terminology, Cognitive Science, Psychology, (Contemporary) Philosophy, Information Design, Literary Studies, Art and Art History. Articles will be published with a CC BY licence with authors retaining copyright.

Research articles that are not able to benefit from this agreement (i.e. if there is no St Andrews corresponding author) can also achieve Green Open Access, and deposit the accepted manuscript in an institutional repository with no embargo. For St Andrews researchers this means depositing in the University’s Research Information System, Pure. John Benjamins also permit using a CC BY licence on the accepted manuscript where a funder requires it. So whether following the Gold route via the agreement, or the Green route by depositing in Pure, St Andrews researchers can meet the expectations of Plan S-aligned research funders such as the EU funders, UKRI, and Wellcome Trust.

We are delighted to offer this agreement to the University of St Andrews community, and look forward to working with John Benjamins through the term of this agreement and beyond.
